Report: NFL determines Eagles handled Jalen Hurts situation appropriately

The NFL has determined that the Eagles handled Jalen Hurts playing against the Jaguars appropriately, Jonathan Jones of the Athletic reported on Tuesday.

Citing a league source, Jones wrote that the Hurts situation was “handled appropriately,” adding, “The NFL will not issue any punishment to the Eagles for its handling of the medical process or for Hurts not being given an injury designation ahead of the game.”

Hurts played against the Jaguars in London on Oct. 11 a day after being diagnosed with a superficial blood clot. He played all 62 snaps in the game, which the Eagles lost 19-17 before traveling back to Philadelphia with the team after the game.

On Monday, the Eagles released a statement in conjunction with Hurts’ agent Nicole Lynn announcing that Hurts conditioned had worsened and that he would miss the remainder of the season with blood clots in his lungs, which required treatment with blood thinners.

In their initial statement last Thursday, the Eagles said they allowed Hurts to play vs. the Jaguars after consulting with league officials: “Throughout our time in London and this week, we have remained in communication with the league office regarding the matter.”

Their second statement, released on Monday, said Hurts is expected to make a full recovery and will be able to resume his career, presumably next year.

With Hurts out, Tanner McKee started this past Sunday in a 25-14 loss to the Panthers, the Eagles’ fourth consecutive loss. He’s expected to continue as the Eagles’ starter the rest of the season.

Cole Payton, a rookie 5th-round pick from North Dakota State, and former Patriot and Cowboy Joe Milton, who joined the team late last week, are the Eagles’ other quarterbacks.
